The Big 12 Conference says school leaders have agreed to equally share first- and second-tier television money if its members agree to give the league their TV rights for at least six years. Interim commisioner Chuck Neinas says the vote should be seen as a positive sign for Missouri, which is reportedly considering whether to stay in the conference or join Texas A&M in the Southeastern Conference. Neinas says he plans to visit with Missouri officials this week to state the league's case for staying put, but not before the school's curators meet Tuesday.

Interim Big 12 Commissioner Chuck Neinas says he is confident Missouri will stay in the Big 12. Missouri is the latest Big 12 school in the spotlight, considering whether to stay in the conference or move to another league. It has been reported that Missouri was eyeing a move to the Southeastern Conference when it looked as if Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech could be heading to the Pac-12. The Big 12 has already lost Texas A&M to the SEC. Last week, Oklahoma President David Boren said all nine remaining schools had agreed to grant their top-tier television rights to the conference for six years.

The Southeastern Conference says Texas A&M is set to be join the league next year. The SEC announced Sunday that the move will be effective next July, and says Texas A&M will participate in all sports during the 2012-13 academic year. That gives the SEC 13 members and its first addition since South Carolina and Arkansas in 1992. The Aggies' defection from the Big 12 had been held up with threatened legal action from Baylor and other schools. The statement released by the SEC did not mention that situation, and spokesman Charles Bloom did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

With half the Big 12 heading into an off week, there are more questions about the league's future. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and Texas' Mack Brown insists their focus is on what's happening on the field. Of course, they both know their teams will be fine no matter what happens. Kansas coach Turner Gill said Monday on the coaches' conference call that he's got faith that the Big 12 "will be standing strong at some point in time," even if nobody knows how it will shake out. Oklahoma's president has said the Sooners will decide soon if they will go to another conference or stick with the Big 12. Texas A&M has already said it's leaving.

SMU wants to join an automatic qualifying BCS conference and believes the Big 12 would be the best fit. SMU athletic director Steve Orsini says he's had informal talks with Big 12 officials for some time to inform them of the school's improvements and growth. He says it's been SMU's goal to join a BCS conference since it wasn't included in the Southwest Conference's merger with the Big 8. With Texas A&M looking to leave the Big 12 for the SEC, he felt it was time to promote SMU, currently in Conference USA, as a possible replacement.

Texas A&M officials have formally told the Big 12 they are considering leaving the conference and want to know the process if they do. Texas A&M has expressed interest in joining the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M President Bowen Loftin's letter to conference Commissioner Dan Beebe says it should not be considered notice that the Aggies have decided to leave. He says the school faces a decision that will shape its future for the next 100 years. If Texas A&M leaves the Big 12, the move could create a shake-up across college sports.
