Kids will be out travelling from house to house collecting candy this weekend. One Wichita home will shine brighter than most. Friends and family there unite to support someone in need. With one glance at the West Wichita house, you can tell the people that live there know how to do Halloween. For Richard and Nicki Janne the holiday is more than just candy and decorations; although there's plenty of both at their home. Thousands of decorations fill the yard. It's the same story inside, Halloween is everywhere you look.

Westar power crews have restored power to all but a handful of 2,300 customers in west Wichita. The lights went out about mid-day Wednesday. ---------------------------- 3:00pm Wednesay More than 2,300 west Wichita residents were without power Wednesday afternoon. Westar Energy tells us it was caused by an equipment failure at a substation. The utility does not expect the outage to last long. One of the effects is the traffic light at Central & Ridge which is not currently working.

Reed Sanderson ended up collecting seven dumpsters (truck loads) full of cans over the weekend. That totals just under 9,000 pounds. The recycling center offered him ten extra cents per pound. Reed raised just over $5,000, not including cash and checks he received. The money will be used to offset medical costs. ------------------------------------- Original Story, September 18 A man on a mission to save his fathers life, and he's only seven-years old. Reed Sanderson organized a can drive to help raise money for his father.

A fire at a home in the 600 block of South Ellis causes about $50,000 in damage. Map - Location of Fire It broke out just before 11:30 Saturday night. Authorities say the blaze started in the kitchen and caused smoke and heat damage throughout the home. The homeowner was able to make it out safely. Officials believe the cause of the fire is electrical. Our news partners at KFDI contributed to this report.

Thousands of people in Wichita will receive something different in the mail in the coming days. Questionnaires are going out to 3,000 households. The goal is to get feedback on the quality of city services. Sample questions include: Please rate how safe or unsafe you feel in Wichita. What is the one thing the City of Wichita could do to improve your neighborhood? What impact do you feel the economy will have on your family income in the next six months?

Thousands of non-profits across Kansas may lose their tax exemption. It's all because of a change in IRS rules that many people didn't know about. But since so many are out of compliance, the IRS is offering one more grace period. "I pray and I stuff," Reverend Peggy Elliott says as she puts donations requests into envelopes. Donations are the only way her ministry Balm of Gilead survives. "It is life to the ministry, literally the blood line," she said. But her work in the community was at risk because of a change with the IRS. "People didn't know the law changed.

Cattle all across Kansas struggle to survive the continuing heat and humidity. Tuesday, officials with Kansas Department of Health and Environment told Eyewitness News that 2300 cattle have died since late last week, in about 10 feedlots spanning from the Salina area to the Dodge City area. The biggest problem is the humidity, not the heat. Ken Powell, an environmental scientist with KDHE, says the deaths are overwhelming feedlots. They're following state regulations to get rid of cattle carcasses by burying them.

That's how many meals a Wichita charity could feed the hungry - if it wins a $30,000 prize. The Lord's Diner is one of 15 contestants in an internet contest. The top vote-getter gets the cash. It couldn't come at a better time, said Wendy Glick of The Lord's Diner. In June, the charity served about 14,600 meals. Historically, its numbers don't spike until July and August. He's walking, running and jogging thousands of miles across America. Jedediah Brown chose to make the trek to raise money for cancer research. "Cuz that's going to be something that effects everybody in life at one point in time or another," Brown said. "Whether you get it or know somebody that gets it. " He started the journey in Yorktown, Virginia, on April 6. He's now outside of Hesston, and he's been walking and running a marathon or more everyday. "My knees are kind of sore most of the time.
