The Detroit Tigers have acquired veteran infielder Wilson Betemit from the Kansas City Royals for Class-A prospects. Betemit hit .281 in 57 games for the Royals, but lost playing time when the Royals promoted rookie third baseman Mike Moustakas from Triple-A Omaha on June 10. Betemit started only five games and had 23 at-bats after Moustakas' arrival. The Royals received left-handed pitcher Antonio Cruz, who was 2-6 with a 3.11 earned run average in 22 games, including 10 starts, with West Michigan in the Midwest League, and catcher Julio Rodriguez, who was hitting .283 in 66 games with Lakeland in the Florida State League.

The Tiger football team fell to the 7th-ranked Griffons of Missouri Western by a score of 21-3 in Hays on Saturday evening. It was the third straight ranked opponent for the Tigers, who fell to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the MIAA with the loss. Missouri Western moved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA. Fort Hays State did a much better job of keeping its defense off the field by putting together time-consuming drives in the first quarter. They had the ball for 9:22 in the opening frame of the game to keep the high-powered Griffon offense off the field.

Fort Hays State trailed by just nine points at halftime to No. 12 ranked Washburn on Saturday, but missed opportunities in the third quarter allowed Washburn to pull away for a 45-20 win. The loss drops FHSU to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.   On their first drive of the second half, Fort Hays State drove the ball into Washburn territory, but an interception thrown by Anthony Sheppard stopped the drive that potentially could have put the Tigers within one score. On the next drive, the Tigers took the ball inside the Ichabod redzone, but Tyler Kimbrough missed a 27-yard attempt that would have put the Tigers within six.   The Tigers tried valiantly to stop the Ichabods on the goal line late in the third quarter, but Sean McPherson barely got in the endzone on 4 th -and-1.

So what exactly constitutes if Tiger Woods is back or not? What does it mean to be "back?" Does he need a major to win? Does he have to win the Ryder Cup by himself? Does he have to mow down the field at every tournament and win by 10 shots? Woods won the Players Championship today by two shots against the best field outside of a major championship. The Players is considered the fifth major, because it is such a tough event. And he looked in control the whole time, except for one hole where the tee shot got away from him. In a word, he was dominant and that's what Tiger of old was. SO I say he is back.

Alex Gordon's grand slam highlighted a five-run 10th inning for the Kansas City Royals, who rallied against the Detroit bullpen for an 8-3 win Thursday after Tigers ace Justin Verlander left with a thumb injury. George Kottaras put the Royals ahead 4-3 with a bases-loaded walk off Phil Coke (0-3). Darin Downs came on for Detroit after that, but Gordon broke the game open one out later with his homer over the center-field wall. Verlander is day-to-day with what the team said was cracked skin on his throwing thumb.

When a circus tiger got out over the weekend in Salina, FactFinder Investigators wanted to know how this could happen. We spoke with the tiger's owner, Doug Terranova, and he said he thinks it was human error. Terranova described how he and his staff were able to corner the tiger in the women's bathroom. "I went in on one in and the trainer went in on the other end," he said. "And from that point on it was a matter of bringing the transport cage to her opening the door and having her jump back in her cage, which she gladly did. " Click here to see a letter from a Salina veterinarian on the tiger escape The tiger was later examined by a veterinarian to make sure there was nothing wrong with her. The vet found the tiger in good health and without defect.

A circus tiger on the loose greets a Salina woman in a restroom.  Not the experience she expected on her first trip to the circus with her family.  And she wasn't the only one with a close encounter at the Bicentennial Center. "It was a pretty quick event," said Jenna Krehbiel.  She wasn't talking about her first trip to the circus, but about what happened between acts on Sunday.  "The tiger show had just finished and I thought, 'Well, this would be a good time to head to the bathroom and be back before the next show,'" said Krehbiel.

Tiger Woods got a reprieve Saturday in the Masters when he was given a two-shot penalty for a bad drop but allowed to stay in the tournament. Woods' shot on the 15th hole of the second round hit the flag stick and bounced back into the water. He took his penalty drop two yards behind where he hit the original shot, which was a violation of the rules. Augusta National added the two-shot penalty to his score, meaning he had a 73 instead of a 71 and now is five shots out of the lead.

China's Tianlang Guan shot 73 at the Master's on Thursday which, in and of itself, isn't overly impressive - until you learn that Guan is 14 years old. That's 14 as in popping zits and still finding humor in fart jokes---are you kidding me? Masterful? I wish that Tiger Woods hadn't gone with the 'winning takes care of everything' tag in his latest Nike spot. It has too much of a double entendre - sure, we all know about his struggles to get back to the world's top ranking, but the thought that winning takes care of his continuous infidelities is ridiculously arrogant.
