It's day two of the Republican National Convention in Tampa and delegates from Kansas are making sure they stand out. The delegates dressed up in costumes that represented the state: A wheatshocker is there, a Jayhawk even some characters from the Wizard of Oz. Former congressman Todd Tiahrt dressed as Wyatt Earp. The rest of the delegates wore Chiefs T-Shirts. Delegate Kelly Arnold says this is something many states do but delegates from the state wanted to stand out.

Former Congressman Todd Tiahrt knew and worked with Gabrielle Giffords. He says the shooting is traumatizing for all elected officials. "An attack on one elected official is an attack on every elected official," Tiahrt said. Tiahrt says he takes this tragedy personally. He worked with Giffords who is now fighting for her life after being shot in the head Saturday at an event in Tucson. Six other people, including an U.D. District Court judge, a 9-year-old girl and an aide to Giffords.

Eighth-graders at Andover Middle School are studying the Boston Tea Party. Tuesday morning, U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt told them today's Tea Party movement basically wants the same thing as the original one: Fewer taxes and less government control. "The reason they adopted that name is they're trying to voice their disagreement in spending, borrowing and taxing," he said. Tiahrt, a Republican who just ran unsuccessfully for the United States Senate, took questions from AMS students for approximately 30 minutes.

Republican Congressmen Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt have joined the newly formed Tea Party Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. The caucus was formed last week by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.). The group’s goal is to promote fiscal responsibility, adherence to the Constiution and limited government. There are no Democrats in the Tea Party Caucus which has approx. three dozen members. There are 178 Republicans in the House. Bachmann hopes Democrats will join the caucus, but so far there's no indication any will.

Congressman Jerry Moran is running for a seat in the Kansas Senate. His newest ad, called "Truth Test", questions the record of his opponent, Rep. Todd Tiahrt. Claim #1: "Desperate and trailing badly in the polls... " FACT. According to our exclusive Fact Finder 12 Scientific Survey, Moran is ahead in the polls. He has 52 percent, with Tiahrt at 29 percent and 15 percent undecided. It's the Moran campaign that classifies that as desperate.
