The second day of Riverfest ended without any rain to cause any worries. Downtown Wichita was filled with people looking for fun. "We thought we would bring the little one out with the family," said Chelsey Stefan who was at Riverfest with her toddler and family. "It's a togetherness and we have time to talk which a lot, doesn't happen nowadays," said Susan Long, who was also with her family. While they were enjoying each other, they also enjoyed the exotic animals like white tigers and camels, and everything the Arkansas River offered.                                              There was no rain at the second day of Riverfest

An El Dorado mother charged in connection to her toddler's death has pleaded guilty to lesser charges. Alyssa Haag entered a plea of involuntary manslaughter in Butler County district court Friday. She was charged with first-degree murder for the death of her 18-month-old daughter, Jayla. Investigators said the child was covered in bruises, and lost six teeth before going to the hospital in March 2012. She died about a week later. Haag's jury trial was scheduled to begin next week.

A toddler drowns in Rooks County after he falls into his family's pool. The accident happened Thursday night in the town of Stockton. Police there say three-year-old Phoenix Wise was playing with his brothers in their backyard. He was only away from his parents for 10 minutes. But when his father returned, he found the boy underwater not breathing. Phoenix's father carried him over to the house of a neighbor, who is a nurse and EMT. CPR was started.

The drowning of a northeast Wichita toddler renews the need for home pool owners to review their safety and security measures as the long, hot summer continues. One-year-old Marcino Hall died Tuesday after the little boy somehow got out of the house and fell into the backyard swimming pool in the 5600 block of Coe Drive. Family told Eyewitness News they believe Marcino may have been trying to reach for a football that had been left in the water. Wednesday, Eyewitness News spoke with Ultra Modern Pool and Patio about simple and affordable steps owners can take to keep pool areas secure.

Brittney N. Betzold pled guilty Thursday in Saline County District Court to abusing and murdering her 14-month-old son. According to our news partners at The Salina Journal, Betzold entered guilty pleas to amended charges of second-degree murder and child abuse in connection. Her son, Clayden Lee Urbanek, died on Oct. 4, 2011. Authorities said the toddler was covered with bruises when he died   As a part of a lea deal, Betzold will serve the sentences one after the other.

A couple charged in the death of a Salina toddler appear in court.  19-year-old Brittney Betzold and her boyfriend 27-year-old Antonio Brown were in court for a preliminary hearing.  They are charged with first-degree-murder in last year's death of Betzold's 14-month old son Clayden Urbanek. The judge spent much of the day hearing about Clayden's injuries.  Trauma manager Rachelle Giroux works at Salina Regional Medical Hospital.  She says Clayden was in grave condition when he was brought in by paramedics in October of 2011.

A convicted murderer is still on the run.  As of Wednesday morning, Saline County authorities still don't know where Antonio Brown Sr. is located.  They've searched for him since Monday afternoon. Around 4:15 Monday, Brown walked away from the Saline County Jail.  Authorities had just transported him to Saline County to be sentenced for the death of Salina toddler Clayden Urbanek. Eyewitness News asked Sheriff Glen Kochanowski how Brown was able to just walk away.  The sheriff says Brown and two other inmates were in a holding cell.  He says somehow the door to the holding cell was unlocked.  Brown walked out the door and into a sally port, which is a secure entryway.  Click here to see photos inside the Saline Co. jail The sheriff says once in the sally port, Brown walked alongside a car leaving the building.  Once outside, he walked away from the jail.  Ten minutes passed before anyone noticed.  "Something happened to keep that door opened.  We are looking at various different people who were working yesterday to see what happened and why it happened," Sheriff Kochanowski said.

By Chris Durden and Megan Strader (WICHITA, Kan.) A child drowns in a decorative pond. Police say the toddler was found in the water outside his home in the 1600 of N. Arkansas Saturday afternoon. Map The boy's father found him in the water and pulled him out. Paramedics rushed him to Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in extremely critical condition, but he later died. Sgt. Jeff Davis, Wichita Police Dept., tells Eyewitness News, "It appears the child was in the house and got out in the back yard somehow.

A Wichita mom and dad will go to trial accused of allowing their toddler to ingest PCP. On June 1, paramedics were called to a home in the 1800 of south Topeka.  When they arrived, they found a 21-month-old girl not breathing. Paramedics stabilized the girl and took her to the hospital. Doctors say she was acting disoriented and her eyes were shaking. After running a test, they determined the girl ingested drugs. Her parents, Courtney Chikwendu and Jamon Johnson face several charges including aggravated battery, aggravated endangerment of a child, possession of cocaine and Johnson faces an additional charge of possession of marijuana.
