Kansas City coach Todd Haley won't confirm or deny a broadcast report that offensive coordinator Charlie Weis was treated at a hospital after Sunday's 31-10 victory over San Francisco. Haley did say Monday the 54-year-old assistant's condition was not life-threatening. But he declined to say more, citing team policy. Weis coached throughout the game with the 49ers. He had knee surgery in the offseason and spent most of training camp wearing a big brace and walking with difficulty, helped by a cane.

This was not the dying moment of an ugly loss. This was a feel-good charity softball game in the middle of the summer, for heaven's sake, when everybody was feeling happy and upbeat. Still the boos rained down on poor Matt Cassel. A few weeks earlier, in another sign of the little regard so many in Kansas City seem to have for their quarterback, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt had publicly announced, seemingly with glee, that the team hoped to sign free agent Peyton Manning. It's been the offseason of disrespect for Cassel, the summer of indignity.

Riding a bike is a great way to spend part of the summer, but what if a disability keeps you from being able to do that? That's where the program "Lose the Training Wheels" comes in. It's a week-long camp that started on Monday at Wichita's Independent Living Resource Center. They replace the back wheel of the bicycle with a series of rollers, so the rider can gain confidence as they progress, eventually riding a typical bike. "This is a simple thing but for a kid, it's one of the major rites of passage," says camp director Matt Hampton.
