Seniors Jacob Pullen and Curtis Kelly, the two top scorers for No. 11 Kansas State, were ordered benched by the NCAA just before the Wildcats' game against UNLV on Tuesday night. Kansas State said Pullen - a preseason All-American and four-year starting guard - would have to miss three games and it was not yet determined how long Kelly would be out. In a statement, the school said they were being punished for receiving impermissible benefits on the purchase of clothing at a local department store.

by Bryan Holmgren Welcome to Detroit and phase two (of question mark) in our series of NCAA tournament blogs. We survived Omaha no worse for wear. Ditto for the Jayhawks, who dispatched Portland State and UNLV to reach the Sweet 16. Now the real challenge begins. Check back throughout this long weekend for plenty of Mo-Town flavor, analysis, trips inside the KU lockerroom, and live in-game updates for cavernous Ford Field. DAY ONE - THE MORNING We arrived late last night, despite the best efforts of the world's worst travel agent - Richard Smith, who somehow booked us with a minuscule 15-minute stopover in Atlanta, Georgia of all places.

by Bryan Holmgren Today's KU-UNLV live blog is brought to you in part by "Mr. Pibb", providing gallons and gallons of caffine for bloggers since Wednesday morning... Mr. Pibb... And by: ham and cheese sandwiches... if you want to BE a winner, you've got to FUEL like one. You can tell the long hours are starting to take their toll, but I'll have my "A" game ready for more in-game breakdowns from Omaha... unless of course I actually suffer one in the meantime. FINAL: KANSAS 75, UNLV 56 The better team slowly and methodically pulled away.

(1) Kansas defeats (8) UNLV by a score of 75-56. OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) - Kansas made sure Blowout City lived up to its name one last time. Capping off two days of mismatches in Omaha, the top-seeded Jayhawks pulled away from UNLV in the second half and romped to a 75-56 victory Saturday at the NCAA's Midwest Regional, another emphatic team effort by a deep, talented group out to win the proud program's first national title in 20 years. Mario Chalmers led the way with 17 points, but he had plenty of help.
