“I don't think Cinderella left four glass slippers, she only lost one.” Gregg Marshall - most recently---on the Dan Patrick Show Fighting the perception--- I would rather fight for respect at the Final Four than the CBI, but the fight continues for Wichita State. Head Coach Gregg Marshall handled a, sometimes, pointed interview with Dan Patrick flawlessly yesterday. The top Shock refused to rise to the bait when a reporter's remarks-- claiming that he wasn't liked in the coaching profession-- were played for him. He went on to deal with the inevitable, now clichéd, Cinderella tag just as George Mason, VCU and Butler had before him. It's a tidy little description that sounds better than be called an 'over achiever' or 'you just got hot' or 'lucky'.

I'm going to miss the BracketBusters. Up until the last couple of years I'd really come to wonder what immediate benefit Wichita State got from this game. Yes, it helped in their scheduling, but through the first seven years rarely did it seem to have the desired effect, not that it didn't foster some interesting bedfellows. Year three - George Mason Through the ten year run of BracketBusters, WSU has always been the higher ranked team in their match-up, which has generally made the game more important beneficial for the opponent than it has the Shockers. When George Mason came in in 2006, they were an up and coming team in the Colonial Athletic Association. Wichita State has just beaten Creighton in overtime and was on the verge of clinching their first Missouri Valley Conference championship in 28 years. The Patriots won by three in the Roundhouse, spurring their run to the Final Four, a run that included a Sweet 16 rematch with the Shockers in their home city of Washington, DC. Last three years VCU, Davidson and Detroit have all been meaningful. To this day Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart credits his team's win in Wichita as the driving force in their Final Four run in 2011. In truth, that one point game won by the Rams on a controversial call in the final second was probably the difference in VCU going to the NCAA with the Shockers headed to the NIT. It worked out for both and a rivalry, of sorts, was born. A year...

I am 27 years old, I am in New Orleans just a block from Bourbon Street and I totally crashed out last night after work, before midnight. This is what the NCAA tournament does to you. For 8-10 hours a day we are inside a dank, dim and freezing cold arena. You lose all sense of time and you are constantly moving around quickly to get the perfect shot or so you can happen upon the perfect interview. The media room is packed and it is hot and it is exhausting. You're trying to keep track of about 7 different storylines at once and it's hectic, crazy, intense and terribly exhilarating.

The Wichita State Shockers lost the VCU Rams, 62-59 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Portland, Oregon. Click for Pictures of the Game The Shocks took the early lead, but then the shots went cold, with WSU shooting just 3-14 from the field to start the game. That left them trailing the Rams 12-7 at the 13 minute mark. A 7-0 run by VCU midway through the half, stretched the Ram lead to eight. Ben Smith stopped the run with a three at the 8:15 mark in the half, that sparked a 11-0 run to answer for the Shocks and give them their first lead since it was 5-4. VCU answered with a 10-0 to retake the lead.

Shocker fans are disappointed with Wichita State's first round loss against VCU. In the first half, there were more lows than highs, but that momentum changed in the second half and fans got even louder with their support. They yelled, they cheered, in fact fans did all they could from home to get the shockers back in the game. It almost worked, as the team pulled within a few points late in the game. But in the end, Wichita State couldn't bring home a victory, leaving fans very disappointed.

San Antonio to New York--the day, after, the day before. I'm feeling surprisingly good for my 5:40 am flight. I've really come to enjoy San Antonio. It's a big city(the second biggest in Texas) with a real sense of community. The River Walk was a stroke of planning genius and it largely sets the city apart, it's such a quaint oasis in the middle of a vibrant city. Until last night KU's memories of San Antonio were all good. Sometimes you can try to go too deep to find what turned a game, but Sunday afternoon KU couldn't shoot and VCU could.
