(WICHITA, Kan.) Wichita State student Amy Coffman spends the day with coffee and her computer. She uses it to keep up with her classes and keep in touch with family by e-mail. "If I don't know who the e-mail is from, I don't open it, I just delete it," she said. But some people might think twice before deleting one that appears to be news headlines from CNN. (WICHITA, Kan.) Danyale Lawrence's job as a waitress keeps her asking questions all day. "White, Wheat or Rye toast?" But some questions she doesn't know how to answer, like what she would do if she caught H1N1, since she doesn't get paid sick leave. "Financially I would be down a couple hundred dollars and then school I would be behind within a week. " So she and other workers at Riverside Cafe aren't taking an chances. The restaurant has installed extra hand sanitizer machines on the wall and the owner say he has to keep a close eye on anyone not feeling well.

In between clients, Tahireh Sharifaie sits at the computer inside her Derby hair salon. She clicks away at Facebook, looking at pictures of friends, keeping tabs on relatives in her native country of Iran, or checking her daily horoscope. "If I'm not on Facebook I feel like I'm bored," she says laughingly. Recently her giggles turned to grumbles when her computer was infected with a virus. "Facebook is renowned for spreading viruses," says computer expert Bill Ramsey.

by Denise Hnytka (SEDGWICK, Kan) Coughing, congestion and sore throats. Many Kansas schools say the flu is spreading quickly, and many students are out sick. In Sedgwick, as many as a quarter of all sixth graders were absent from class last week. To say these kids feel a little under the weather may be an understatement. "A lot of just achy. They tell me their body just hurts," said Jana Blank, school nurse. The nurses's office at R.L. Wright Elementary School in Sedgwick has become a busy place.

The FBI is warning of a new internet scam called ransomware that's capable of holding a computer hostage unless the owner pays up. Sherri Brown says her teenage son recently had a frightening message appear on his laptop screen that claimed to be from the FBI. It said he violated copyright laws by illegally viewing or distributing music, videos or software. "He was panicking. He thought he was going to get in big trouble from the FBI," Brown said. The message locked up the computer and ordered Brown to buy what's called a Green Dot Money Pak card to unlock the device.

A Kansan has died from West Nile Virus. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says as of noon Friday August 24, they've confirmed 19 cases of the virus. There are also 14 probable cases being reviewed. KDHE says the case count by county is: Sedgwick-12, Douglas-1, Harvey-1, Pottowatomie-1, Reno-1, Stafford-1, Sumner-1 and Trego-1. No other details about the patients or the one death will be provided at this time. "Sadly, someone in Kansas has died due to West Nile virus disease.

More cases of both West Nile Virus and Whooping Cough are reported in Sedgwick County. The Sedgwick County Health Department said Tuesday morning the number of Whooping Cough, or Pertussis, cases in the county now stands at 47. That was three more than Monday afternoon. The health department says, with children returning to school, that number will likely go up. County health officials note that Pertussis is preventable with a vaccine. The state requires children to receive the vaccine prior to school enrollment, but that many children are in need of a booster shot.

More than half way through the summer cases of West Nile virus are popping up in Sedgwick County. According to Via Christi Hospital there have been two confirmed patients with West Nile Virus. A hospital spokesperson says that only 1 in 10 West Nile cases need medical attention. It is possible for some to fight off the infection naturally. Some symptoms for the virus include fever, headache, tenderness, and body aches. You can take precautions to avoid being exposed to West Nile, by removing standing water such as baby pools and small ponds.
