Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has signed an emergency declaration for all of Kansas as a winter weather system moves across the state. The measure allows state agencies to assist local governments as needed during the winter blast. The first wave of the system started to die down Wednesday afternoon, but more inclement weather is expected early Thursday morning. Brownback announced that all state offices will be closed Feb. 21 in anticipation of deteriorating conditions.

The potent winter storm that brought around 4-8 inches of snow to northwest and northcentral Kansas is weakening tonight over southeast Nebraska. Some light snow and flurries will be possible this evening over parts of northcentral and northeast Kansas but no additional accumulation is forecast. As the weather system invades Missouri tonight, we expect the clouds to break over western Kansas while remaining a bit stubborn in the east. Overnight lows...

On Saturday, light snow in the west will come to an end but the clouds will be stubborn to break. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies are forecast in the east. Even with the sunshine returning, it will continue quite frigid with highs struggling to reach the upper teens to the lower and middle 20s. The next weather system will work in on Sunday as light snow develops initially over western Kansas. By Sunday night, areas of light snow will...

A weak weather system will move into Kansas this afternoon with light snow developing, initially over southwest Kansas. By tonight, areas of light to at times moderate snow will transition to freezing drizzle by the early morning commute, so roadways could be slick across much of the central and eastern sections of the state. A winter weather advisory has been posted from 8 p.m. tonight until 6 p.m. Monday. Monday morning, light to moderate snow will be found in eastern Kansas, with a wintry mix over parts of central and western Kansas. Temperatures will continue to slowly climb, changing the leftover precipitation in the east to some light rain or drizzle by afternoon. Accumulations will be around the 1-2" range for Wichita and Salina, with more southeast of the Kansas Turnpike.

A cold and cloudy St. Patty's Day across Kansas. A few sprinkles, mixed with flurries and freezing drizzle across central and southwest Kansas this morning, however not enough reaching the ground to cause travel problems. Maybe a few peeks of sun (especially in the west) by afternoon. Highs will reach the mid 50s in the far west, with 40s central and east. The wind will be turning to the southeast late in the day, and will be gusty across the west. Towards evening there is a slight chance our next "weaker" weather system might produce a few sprinkles or showers during the early evening.

Another quiet night is ahead for Kansas, thanks to clear or mostly clear skies. Look for lows in the 30s and 40s. A big travel day is ahead on Wednesday. The good news is that we'll have plenty of sunshine, along with a few high clouds. High temperatures will be near-record territory as readings climb into the 70s! However, with that warmth will come gusty southerly winds over 30 mph in places. As such, you'll want to keep both hands on the steering wheel, especially on east-west highways. The weather forecast on Thanksgiving Day looks decent overall but it will trend breezy and cooler as cold front and a weather system moves through the state. A chance of showers will develop for parts of south central and southeast Kansas ahead of this feature Thursday afternoon.

Look for some high clouds over Kansas tonight with lows falling to the upper teens to lower 20s. Northwest winds of 5-15 mph can be expected too. Just in time for the weekend, the warm up will kick in! Some early morning high clouds will depart, leaving us with sunny skies. As a west to southwest wind unfolds, the afternoon highs will be quite pleasant in the lower to middle 50s. Sunday looks even nicer but there will be a little more wind around. Highs should top out in the upper 50s for most locations.

If you "liked" yesterday's weather you are going to "love" today and Monday. Sunshine and light winds (less than 20 m.p.h.) will be the rule with highs reaching the upper 50s and low 60s! This is about 15 degrees above normal for this time of year! Mostly clear tonight with lows dropping into the 20s and lower 30s. Monday will be even warmer, under mostly sunny skies, highs will soar to the middle and upper 60s across Kansas! For some places in Kansas, this will be close to record highs for the date.
