KU football coach Turner Gill visited Wichita Wednesday night. Gill gave Jayhawk fans a look at the incoming recruiting class. New Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger was also on-hand. The event was supposed to happen February 8, but a snowstorm delayed the event until this week. Similiar events took play in Lawrence and Topeka, with the final one schedule for Thursday in Kansas City.

Two people are recovering after an overnight stabbing in Wichita. It happened just before 3:00 am in the 1800 block of N. Broadway. Police say the two were in their back yard when a man walked up and confronted them. Investigators say he started arguing with the couple, then stabbed both of them. The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, the woman only suffered minor injuries. Police are looking for suspects.

A group of Wichita parents is encouraging lawmakers to support the Parents as Teachers program. The program teaches children the developmental basics they need, like writing and interacting with adults, before they attend kindergarten. Gretchen Postiglione is a mother of two from Wichita. She says the program helped one of her daughters learn to walk when she fell behind other children in her peer group. Programs like Parents as Teachers and Head Start are facing potential funding cuts as state and local officials try to find ways to balance this year's budget.

A cable network is giving Wichita some national exposure. C-SPAN is spending this week in town. The cable network will feature the city's history and literary life on its Book-TV and American History-TV channels. Earlier, C-SPAN visited other cities in the south central part of the country, including Shreveport, Little Rock and Oklahoma City. Wichita will be followed by Jefferson City, Missouri. C-SPAN's coordinating producer Debbie Lamb tells us, "it really is a chance for us to get out of Washington D-C, get out of our traditional programming and enhance C-SPLAN2's book programming and enhance C-SPAN3's american history programming".

Gas prices in Wichita jumped Sunday night. The price of a gallon of unleaded now averages $2.59 a gallon. On Saturday, the price was $2.42 a gallon. Gasoline prices have been decreasing a little more than 7 cents per gallon in the past two weeks. Lower demand in September is expected to keep prices relatively steady. The latest Lundberg Survey found the national average price of self-serve regular at $2.70 per gallon. The average is the country's lowest since February.

The City of Wichita is teaming up with the North Pole to collect letters for Santa and give away early Christmas presents that include a ride on a Wichita fire truck. From now through Dec. 14, children ages 12 and under are invited to drop off their letters at Century II (Concert Hall entrance) CityArts, Old Cowtown Museum and the Mid-America All-Indian Center. Children who include a return address and stamp on the outside of their envelopes will also receive a response from Santa Claus himself.

It finally came, after waiting for two weeks. Rain. "I'm glad we're having it," said Peggy Norman. "I'm not excited about the cool weather because then that means winter's coming. " Even though only an estimated half inch of rain fell, drivers were running their windshield wipers and people had to get their umberellas open as well. The rain started falling around two in the afternoon, and when it stopped, a double rainbow appeared.

The Wichita Thunder ended the 2010 calendar year with a 4-1 win over the Rapid City Rush at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Friday night. Four different Thunder players accounted for the goals, while Marc-Antoine Gelinas had his third consecutive strong outing to earn the win. The Thunder used two power play goals to take a 2-0 lead after the first period. Jesse Bennefield beat Rush goaltender Danny Battochio through the five-hole at 9:06 during a Thunder two-man advantage.

The Wichita Thunder lost 4-3 to the Texas Brahmas at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Friday night. Mick Lawrence snapped a 3-3 tie at 13:37 in the third period to provide the final margin. Wichita had several opportunities with an extra attacker in the final 1:43, but Brahmas' goaltender Wayne Savage prevented the Thunder from tying the game. Trailing 3-2 after two periods, Lance Galbraith tied the game at 6:40 in the third, winning a scrum in front of the net. It was the third time Wichita battled back to even the contest.
