Kansas State had its perfect season undone last week by Oklahoma. Now, the No. 17 Wildcats will try to get back on track against third-ranked Oklahoma State. The Wildcats were hammered 58-17 by the Sooners, allowing 690 yards of offense while only managing 32 yards in the second half. Cornerback Nigel Malone said "it kind of hurts the pride a little bit," especially after Kansas State was off to its best start since 1999. Things won't be much easier against the Cowboys. The quarterback-to-wide receiver duo of Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon is among the best in college football, and some have argued they're a more prolific offense than Oklahoma.

There was a period during the late 1990s, back in Bill Snyder's first tenure at Kansas State, when the Wildcats annually fielded one of the best defenses in the country. There are signs that another stout defense is forming in the Flint Hills. Through the first three games of the season, the No. 15 Wildcats have piled up eight sacks and 22 tackles for loss, an increase of nearly 50 percent from the same point last season. That defense will surely get a test on Saturday, when the Wildcats visit No. 6 Oklahoma in a game that should go a long way toward deciding the Big 12 championship.
