Plenty of clouds will be around the state today, along with a few sprinkles too.  A powerful cold front will race southeast, kicking up the winds.  A wind advisory is in effect today as northwest winds will increase to 20-35 mph and gusty behind the front.  Highs in the 40s and 50s are expected.  More sunshine and cooler temps will greet you for Saturday.  Highs will end up in the 40s tomorrow afternoon. The second half of the weekend looks better with highs in the lower to middle 50s. As we close out the month of January on Monday and Tuesday, readings will be near the 60 degree mark.

Quite a windy day is expected across Kansas.  A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Wichita area.  A High Wind Warning is in effect for much of central and western Kansas. Look for wind gusts to easily exceed 45, even 50 mph at times. Use extreme caution on area lakes. Highs this afternoon will reach the 80s and 90s.   A few late-day storms are possible in northcentral Kansas. Isolated storms will work through eastern Kansas overnight. A cooler Tuesday is on tap for the state before the warm up kicks back in. ___________________ Wichita Area Forecast: . Wind Advisory until 8 p.m. . Memorial Day :  Mostly sunny to partly cloudy, windy and very warm.  Wind: S 25-35; gusty.  High: 89. Tonight :  Partly cloudy and breezy with a few isolated storms possible.  Wind: S/NW 15-25; gusty.  Low: 67. Tomorrow :  Mostly sunny and not as warm.  Wind: N/NE 10-15.  High: 84. Winds will diminish tonight and combined with mostly clear to clear skies, we will see a cool night.  Low temperatures will drop to the low to mid 30s west to the low to mid 40s east. A Freeze Warning is out for southwest Kansas, including Garden City. Northwest winds will ramp back up on Thursday with gusts in the 45-55 mph range. A High Wind Warning and a Wind Advisory is out for parts of Kansas.  When you combine the wind with the dry conditions, the fire danger will be extremely high.  Temperatures Thursday will stay on the cool side, topping out in the 60s for most areas.

The big story today will be STRONG northwest winds that will usher in much colder temperatures for the area. Much of the state is under a Wind Advisory or a High Wind Warning for the morning and afternoon as wind gusts will be 45-60 mph. Showers will coming to an end and clouds will slowly break up across central Kansas today, with more sunshine expected in western Kansas by afternoon. Highs in the mid 40s.  Clearing skies tonight and diminishing wind will result in a very cold night with lows in the teens and 20s. Less wind and sunny skies Sunday will close our holiday weekend with highs in the 40s across the eastern sections of Kansas and 50s in the west.

Storms will continue to weaken overnight across central Kansas.  Elsewhere, expect partly cloudy skies. We expect windy and dry conditions on Sunday, leading to extreme fire danger concerns.  Southwest to northwest winds will gust over 40 and 45 mph at times.  Look for cooler conditions tomorrow with highs in the 50s, 60s and 70 across the state.  Look for some showers in the northwest, while the rest of Kansas will likely stay dry....

The relentless Kansas wind will continue to howl Wednesday especially over the eastern half of our state ahead of potent cold front. Look for mostly cloudy to cloudy skies and highs in the 60s. Gusty southerly winds will be found east of the front but over the central and west, a north to northeast wind will prevail with much cooler highs only in the 40s and 50s. Skies will turn clear tonight and the winds will back down too.  Lows in the upper teens are forecast for the northwest while the rest of the Sunflower State drops to the 20s. The first Arctic blast of the new year will arrived in Kansas Wednesday along with wicked northerly winds and tumbling temperatures. The winds of wintry change will continue to howl across Kansas Thursday as it will still be windy and cold with highs around 30 degrees despite sunny skies. This will be a harsh change compared to the first ten days of the new year when we enjoyed mild, above average temps. Gusty northerly winds will yield wind chills in the single digits and teens most of the day so bundle-up!

Kansas winds will continue to howl Friday afternoon especially over the southwest where 35-40 mph gusts are likely. Mostly sunny skies will prevail with afternoon highs in the upper-50s to low 60s. Even stronger winds are on the way Saturday as a weather system tracks out of the Rockies and into the northern Plains. A high wind watch and wind advisory has been issued for most of Kansas Saturday. A few evening showers could clip the northwest corner of Kansas but it will be dry elsewhere.
