The Wichita Wingnuts won their fifth game in a row, beating the Amarillo Sox 6-2 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Ben Graham pitched six strong innings to earn the win.  Juan Richardson homered and finished with four hits and three RBI to lead the offense. Amarillo took their only lead of the game in the top of the second.  Tim Alberts lined a single to left leading off and went to second when Alberto Espinosa reached on an error charged to Khoury at shortstop.  Van Pope blooped a single into shallow left-center to drive in Alberts with the tying run.  Amarillo went in front when Espinosa scored on Chuck Lofgren's groundout to first.

The Wichita Wingnuts made two additions to their lineup on Friday, re-signing outfielder Josh Workman, and signing catcher Angel Flores. Workman helped anchor the Wingnuts' lineup last season, appearing in all 100 of the team's contests.  An alumnus of Wichita State University, Workman set career-bests in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.325), runs scored (66), doubles (29), home runs (10), and RBI (68).  The Atchison, KS native drew 44 walks against only 68 strikeouts, and finished with a .398 on-base percentage.  The left-handed hitting Workman hit safely in 73 of 100 games, and totaled 36 multi-hit contests--11 of which were for three hits.  Unfazed by same-handed pitching, Workman hit .361 against southpaws in 97 at bats.  Workman was also a model of consistency, and went consecutive games without a base hit just four times the entire season.

Nothing like coming home, especially when your house has a new coat of paint on it.  Or in the Wingnuts case, a new field to play on. The Wichita Wingnuts open up the new Lawrence Dumont Stadium today against El Paso. Wichita comes home after losing to Fort Worth, 8-1 but winning the series with the Cats. Manager Kevin Hooper said before the beginning of the season that he liked all the players on his roster, especially his pitching staff. He should, considering he hand picked all of them during a two week spring exhibition.
