Workers at Ace Hardware spent the day putting out winter storm supplies. Most of it went into a backroom about two weeks ago, but it is now in high demand. "People have been calling to make sure we have this stuff in stock," Kenneth Curiel, employee, said. "Last time they ran out so we ordered some early this time," Aaron Patterson, customer, said. Store employees say the more scrappers, ice melt, and shovels the store sells, the better, because right now the lower the temperature, the fewer the dollars.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli helpd a briefing about the second winter storm expected to hit Kansas. The blizzard like conditions will move through Kansas Monday through Tuesday afternoon.  "With the prediction of strong winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusting up to 50 to 60 mph, this storm has the potential to cause power outages and white out conditions," said Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, adjutant general and director of Kansas Division of Emergency Management.

The impact of this week's winter storm continues, even though the snow has moved east. Temperatures across Kansas remain in the single digits in most places. The Kansas Division of Emergency Management staffed the State Emergency Operations Center Tuesday night to monitor the weather and respond to calls for assistance. Staffing remains at partial activation running 24/7 with the help of other state agencies. KDEM reports Stormont-Vail Medical Center in Topeka requested help to transport blood from the Community Blood Bank in Kansas City, Mo. Kansas Highway Patrol troopers met officers from the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department at the Kansas-Missouri border and received three boxes of blood and blood products, which they transported to Stormont-Vail.

A winter storm is headed for Kansas on Wednesday, bring a chance for some freezing drizzle and snow. Clouds will thicken Tuesday night ahead of the storm, and on Wednesday, look for light freezing drizzle and snow in northwest Kansas, with light snow developing over central and northern Kansas Wednesday afternoon. Light snow is likely for Wednesday night across the state with the storm moving away Thursday morning. Snowfall will be heaviest over northeast Kansas where 4-6 inches of snow appear likely by Thursday morning.

Wichita city officials urge residents to not travel unless it's absolutely necessary during the upcoming winter storm expected to hit the area Sunday night through Monday. Click here for School and Community Closings Public Works and Public safety officials said the storm conditions will make traveling very dangerous. Due to the snow Wichita got last week, there is limited availability to store plowed snow on the curbs, so snow may need to be plowed in to the middle lanes of four-lane roads.

The winter storm that brought freezing rain, ice and some snow to Kansas will continue to spin away from our region Thursday. A few flurries will linger early in the day and temps will be bitter cold to start Thursday but conditions will be improving by afternoon. Thursday afternoon will bring a mix of clouds and sun. Our wind will stay out of the northwest but will not be as strong as the last few days. Highs will climb into the low to mid-40s for most of Kansas but the southwest will likely see low to mid 50s. Friday morning will bring lows in the 20s to around 30 again and threaten tender plants that may already be in the ground so cover them up if you can. A warming trend will get us back into the 60s and 70s this weekend and we will stay dry until Sunday night.

Showers and storms have developed over southwestern Kansas.  This activity is expected to move northeast and into the Wichita area after Midnight.  Lows overnight will drop to the 40s and 50s. Colder air will continue to settle in Sunday night and Monday as a storm system approaches from the west. Light freezing drizzle will develop over parts of Kansas tonight and should be off and on for Monday. Ice accumulation less than .10" is possible by Monday afternoon, which will lead to some very dangerous travel across the state. Freezing drizzle will turn to all snow Monday night and continue through Tuesday. At the same time, strong north winds will be occurring, which will create significant blowing and drifting of the snow.

A mild day to end our last full weekend of shopping before the Christmas Holiday.  Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies statewide.  Unseasonably warm high temperatures reaching the upper 50s and low 60s today.     Big changes are heading our way for Monday and Tuesday.  Out west, rain will change to snow.  In the east rain will develop but won't changeover until evening.   Winter Storm and Blizzard Watches have been posted for a good chunk of Kansas, with heavy accumulating snow possible from southwest through central and northeast Kansas by Tuesday evening.  Snowfall accumulations between 4-8" will be common with some locations in Kansas picking up a foot (or more)
