Kansas baseball scored 11 runs on a season high 18 hits, including three each by freshman Ka’iana Eldredge and senior Casey Lytle as the Jayhawks unloaded on Wichita State, 11-2, to sweep the two-game midweek series Wednesday night at Eck Stadium.   The Jayhawks improve to 22-24 overall, while the Shockers fall to 28-21. The nine-run margin of victory was the biggest by KU in a game against Wichita State since a 10-1 Kansas win on April 7, 1988.   Kansas scored early and often in a game that was never really in doubt.

Tuesday was a somber day on the campus of Wichita State University. It was 42 years ago that a plane crash in Colorado killed 31 members of the Shocker football program. Each year on October 2nd, current students and faculty gather with surviving team members to honor those who were lost. Ray Burford, says after all these years, the day still brings a mix of emotions, "It brings on the subtle things that are always with us...the memories the fun the laughter the hardship the heartbreak that were involved in it so it's just a good time to remember and make acquaintances and renew old friendships".

I'll get to call Creighton a few more times at the Missouri Valley Tournament next week, but I'm not guaranteed a Blue Jays-Shockers matchup like I had twice over the weekend. It got me to thinking how much I'll miss the Jays and not just their competitiveness, but their people too. I've always enjoyed their administrators, coaches and athletes. In many ways Creighton and Wichita State had become each other's measuring sticks, both bringing out the best in the other as rivals should do. I think Shocker fans are going to miss the school they loved to hate.

The Wichita Thunder has won ten straight games - the last team to beat them? Allen, Texas. The undeniably best teams in the Central Hockey League open their best of seven championship series tonight in Texas---the Thunder are coming off back to back sweeps in the playoffs and haven't played for a week. Allen won a hard fought seven game set with Missouri at the end of last week. We'll find out whether the break's been good for the Thunder, or allowed some rust to form. I think Wichita splits two in Texas and wins the series in six games.

Can't quite recall how many times Billy Horschel had to wait to win his first PGA Tour event but it was worth it in the end. Since graduating the University of Florida in 2009 and battling between the Web.com Tour and PGA, Horschel broke the tape in New Orleans for his first win on Tour. If you have a chance to see the final round on KWCH 12, it was something. Weather delays halted the progress and Horschel had to fend off D.A. Points for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. There has been a lot of talk about Horschel since graduating and coming out on Tour.

Wichita police say a former Final Four Wichita State men's basketball player is under investigation for rape.  The player is no longer on the team because he's out of eligibility. Police aren't releasing the name, but say the investigation involves allegations from a 20-year-old female, who is not a student.  Police say the investigation stems from an incident at a teammate's home over the weekend. "It appears that there was some sort of get together over at this residence and during that time frame, late Saturday/early Sunday, is when it was reported that it happened," said Lt. Doug Nolte with the Wichita Police.

Is there such a thing as a "Happy Tax Day"? Down under Master--- Adam Scott, belly putter and all, wins the Master's in a playoff against Angel Cabrera who, I swear, only plays well in majors. Tiger Woods finishes fourth, four shots off the lead and is left to wonder 'what if?' Remember, Woods was assessed a two stroke penalty on Friday after a series of events that started with him hitting the flagpole on 15 and bouncing into the water. Who's to say what happens if that shot doesn't get the bad bounce and he makes birdie instead of triple bogey.
